For many years, Canada’s unions have been calling for a national child care system that works for all families. The federal Liberal government has committed to developing national child care and early learning that is affordable, high-quality, flexible and fully-inclusive. Right now, the government is working with provinces and territories to negotiate a national Early Learning and Child Care Framework (ELCC) that will become the basis from which early learning and child care programs are developed across Canada.
This means that we have a real opportunity to help shape a quality child care and early learning system that all families can count on. But we have to make sure that our voices are heard.
The CLC has developed a child care lobby kit to encourage union members to reach out to their local MPs and share with them their personal stories or struggles with child care as well as to hold the government to their commitment of building a child care system that truly works for all Canadian families. A copy of the lobby kit is attached below. We ask that you share this document widely with local leadership, stewards, committees and activists in your union. For any further information or questions you are also welcome to contact the CLC’s Women and Human Rights department at womens‑firstname.lastname@example.org.
