I am the First Vice President of the Halton Elementary OECTA unit and am currently on full time release. I have been involved with the local unit since 2007. I started my involvement by being a Staff Rep and from there became part of the Executive as a non-voting Counsellor. After that I made the decision to have a say in what matters to the members and became a Councillor. I have served and continue to serve on many committees including: Pension, Grievance, Collective Bargaining, Finance, Legislation, Labour Management, Young Authors (member and chair), Joint Board Level Staffing, SAC, Joint PD, Human Rights/Status of Women (member and chair), Educator of the Year Selection and the Joint Board/OECTA PA Day. I have also been a delegate at the AGM, Beginning Teachers Conference and The Women’s Leadership Symposium. My experience goes beyond local as I sat on the Provincial Status of Women Committee for 3 years, 2 of the years as Chair. During my time as Chair I was a member of the Council of Presidents where I was able to gain first hand knowledge on what went on Provincially and what mattered to members of other local units. I have always worked hard to gain knowledge on the local matters and issues important to the members. My goal is to continue to work hard to serve the members of the Halton Elementary OECTA unit.
